On Sunday, May 15, 2022, Gavin competed in the Season Opener Du/ Tri sprint distance duathlon in Hopkinton, MA. He embraces any opportunity to race– especially races he has not yet competed in. Eighty-seven athletes participated. This race presented an interesting mix of seasoned racers and many at the beginning of their racing journey. Repeatedly announcing that bikes are NOT to be ridden in the transition area proved that many were new to the sport. It’s great to see interest growing! As an experienced racer, Gavin’s performance was strong and steady with an impressive finish time of 1:04:45. He was pleased with his first run time averaging 6:03! Additionally, we saw improvement in his transition times. Not only has he decreased his transition time, but he began passing other racers in transition as well. His excellent pace earned him fourth place for the overall finish and first place in his age category.
